About the Library

Library is an integral part of any institutions, rightly said by the former President of India Dr.S. Radhakrishnan. Library is the heart of any educational or academic institution because it is the spring of wisdom from where all can quench their thirst of knowledge.

The College Library is a vital component of the College system and the hub for educational materials. Since the college's founding in 2007, the Shirakole Mahavidyalaya Library has been open for students. The development of a new annex building was begun in 2020 and was completed in the middle of 2021. In August 2021 newly constructed floor was inaugurated by local Honorable persons and our Principal Dr. Sukla Dutta Maity.

With the prompt efforts of the Current principal Dr. Samiran Mondal , the Library is member now a register member of N - LIST (National Library and Information Services infrastructure for Scholarly Content) consortium of INFLIBNET through which the members of the library can access 6300+ ejournals and 1,00,000 ebooks.

A.      Circulations: Starting at the circulation counter, the library provides front desk services. In order for newly accepted students to use the library, they must first register. It is the library that issues the library cards members can get following resources.

B.      E Resources

The Library is member of N - LIST (National Library and Information Services infrastructure for Scholarly Content) consortium of INFLIBNET through which the members of the library can access 6500+ ejournals and 1,00,000+ ebooks. Besides it subscribes to Sage ejournals and Oxford University Press ebooks. To have access to these resources, user can mail their interest to [email protected] mentioning name, department and phone number. After registration, the respective member will get an activation link. After activating the account will be activated.

C.      Newspaper Desk: Library subscribes to 2 leading newspapers Anandabazar Patrika and Telegraph in Bengali and English languages and career related newspaper like karmokhetro  and Employment News.

D.      Journals & Magazines: Library subscribes 2 academic journals and 1 print magazine and 6500+ ejournals for its academic fraternity. Back volumes of print journals are also available in the bound.  

E.      Question Paper:  The library archive contains question sets from the last five years. And circulate in both online and offline modes.

F.      Career Corner: In the career Corner, library provides relevant news paper, books and magazines for the competitive examination for government and non-government positions. Library subscribes and career related newspaper like karmokhetro and  Employment News. The corner is a support service to the students of Career Advancement subcommittee of the College.

G.      Orientation, Reference & BibliographicServices: The library hosts a regular orientation event for new College students at the start of each semester. Additionally, it offers teachers bibliographic and need-based reference services.

 

 Library Regulations

  • Each student has to be the member for using the Library.
  • The college library remains open from 10.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. from Monday to Friday; 10.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. on Saturday. But circulation suspended one hour before of the closing time.
  • The Students may borrow 2 books for 7 days and may renew the same for additional 7 days. Full time teachers may borrow 10 books for 30 days where SACT teachers may borrow 5 books for 30 days.
  • Marginal Students (having family income less than 10,000 per month) are allowed to borrow 4 books for 15 days.
  • The Library is under CCTV Surveillance.
  • Retaining books for more than the stipulated period is liable for a fine of Rs 1 /day/book.
  • The members have open access to the library. So members have to keep their bags (excluding purse & mobile) in the baggage counter.
  • No student is allowed to take additional copy of same title at a time.
  • Members will be allowed to use reading room for reading purposes after submission of their reading cards.
  • Noise, disturbance or disobedient behavior is forbidden in any part of Library.
  • Disregard of library rules, indiscipline and misbehavior will render students liable to be denied access to the library.
